Independent Investigation

In September 2017 a special committee of the University of Rochester’s Board of Trustees commissioned Mary Jo White, former chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, former US Attorney, and senior chair of the law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton, to launch a fully independent investigation into claims of sexual harassment and retaliation raised in an EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) complaint filed against the University in August 2017, and to review the University’s processes, policies, and procedures concerning allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment.

The report of the Independent Investigation was presented simultaneously by Attorney White to the Board of Trustees and the Special Committee the morning of January 11, 2018 and released, unedited, to the University community and the public at 12:45 p.m.

The full report is now available online.

Attorney White held a news conference for representatives of the media at the University of Rochester at 1 p.m. January 11. A recording of the news conference is available below.
