During this time, you may:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Travel\u00a0<em>within<\/em> the United States and make plans to return home<\/li>\r\n \t<li><a href=\"\/iso\/current-students\/studying\/transfer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Transfer your SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) record to another school<\/a><\/li>\r\n \t<li><a href=\"\/iso\/visas\/change-immigration-status\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Change your Immigration Status (COS) through USCIS<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>You may not use an expired I-20 or DS-2019 to re-enter the United States during your grace period.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nIf you\u2019re leaving your program prior to completion, the grace period will be shortened or eliminated. In that case, you should leave the country or make other arrangements quickly. For more information about grace periods for students, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/studyinthestates.dhs.gov\/2019\/07\/students-understand-your-post-completion-grace-period\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Study in the States<\/a>.\r\n<h4>F-1 grace period lengths<\/h4>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><strong>Completion of program: <\/strong>60 days<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Authorized withdrawal: <\/strong>15 days<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Unauthorized withdrawal: <\/strong>None<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h4>J-1 grace period lengths<\/h4>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><strong>Completion of program: <\/strong>30 days<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Authorized withdrawal: <\/strong>None<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Unauthorized withdrawal: <\/strong>None<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3>J-1 Scholars and Employees<\/h3>\r\nJ-1 scholars and employees who have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/iso\/scholars-employees\/j-1-scholars\/maintaining-status\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maintained valid J-1 status<\/a> are eligible for a 30-day grace period after successfully finishing their program. If a program is terminated early, the grace period will be invalid.\r\n\r\nDuring this time, you may travel\u00a0<em>within<\/em> the United States and make plans to return home.\r\n\r\nYou may not:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>\r\n<div class=\"zMgcWd dSKvsb\" data-il=\"\">\r\n<div data-crb-p=\"\">\r\n<div class=\"xFTqob\">\r\n<div class=\"Gur8Ad\">Work or Study -
