The first part asks for confirmation about your personal details and the request you are making, and the second part asks for information and documentation for the dependents you are hoping to add or remove. If you are looking to remove a dependent, you will have to show proof of divorce, departure (flight itinerary, I-94 travel history, etc.), or change of status (I-94 showing new status).<\/p>\r\nIn the third part of the form, the primary visa holder will be required to show proof of financial support of $7000 USD for each dependent (in addition to your other estimated expenses). Please follow the guidelines below to document financial support:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Proof of financial support must include the bank or financial institution, name of the account holder(s), account number, type of account, current balance and currency, and statement date. A common form of documentation provided is a recent bank statement.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Documents must be unaltered and recently issued, not more than 6 months.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Statements printed in a language other than English will require a written translation. Be sure to include this when uploading documentation.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>If you have extra funding from the university that you want to use towards adding dependents, you must provide an updated school funding document if your previous funding letter was issued in a previous school year. To obtain this new funding letter, please reach out to your academic advisor or department coordinator.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>If you want to use funding from a sponsor or relative, you must have documentation from their financial sources with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/iso\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/financial-support-ltr.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-attrib-id=\"link-cc361144-33b4-4c15-bc54-462c07b27f23\">Statement of Financial Support<\/a> signed by them, as well.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nIf you have any questions about any part of the form, please reach out to the ISO and we will assist you.","background_color":"#ffffff","width":"width-medium"},{"acf_fc_layout":"text","anchor":"","css_class":"","title":"","content":"<h2>J-1 scholars\/researchers and professors dependent requests<\/h2>\r\nIn order to bring dependents to the US, the <a href=\"\/iso\/scholars-employees\/\">J-1 scholar or professor<\/a>\u00a0must show evidence of financial resources sufficient to support their spouse and\/or children. As a rule, our minimum funding requirement for each dependent who will accompany the J-1 principal to the US is $500 USD per month. This amount doesn\u2019t include the cost of health insurance and medical evacuation and repatriation of remains insurance, which are required of all J-1 and J-2 visa holders by the US government.\r\n\r\nNew J-1 applicants should include dependents on their original application. To request dependents after an initial J-1 arrival, please use the <a href=\"https:\/\/urcompass.ur.rochester.edu\/istart\/controllers\/client\/ClientEngine.cfm?serviceid=EFormJ1ScholarRequestForaJ2DependentBiographical0ServiceProvider\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J-1 Scholar Request For a J-2 Dependent<\/a> e-form on URCompass. ISO will review the paperwork and make a determination whether a DS-2019 is appropriate. If so, ISO will issue a new DS-2019 for each dependent for the purpose of J-2 visa application and travel to the US.","background_color":"#ffffff","width":"width-medium"},{"acf_fc_layout":"text","anchor":"","css_class":"","title":"","content":"<h2>B-1\/B-2 visitors<\/h2>\r\nThere are no dependent categories for visitors, so if other family members such as parents, siblings, or extended family want to visit you in the US, they must apply for their own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/iso\/visas\/b-1-b-2\/\">B-1\/B-2 visa<\/a> or waiver.
