Posting material to iTunes U represents a distribution of copyrighted material. The copyright owner has the exclusive right to make such a distribution. Materials distributed from the iTunes U server are subject to the University of Rochester's Policy on Copyright and Fair Use.

If you are not the copyright holder you may still be able to post material to iTunes U if it meets the following criteria:

  • The material is in the public domain, and is therefore free from copyright. More information about works in the public domain can be found here:
  • The material represents a "Fair Use" and is exempt from obtaining the permission of the rights holder. The University of Rochester's Fair Use Analysis Worksheet  can be used to guide your determination of fair use:
