Michael Marsh named chief of staff to the president

Michael Marsh is joining the President’s Office as chief of staff. University of Rochester President Sarah Mangelsdorf announced Marsh’s appointment, which follows a national search. He will start in the President’s Office on March 1. Marsh brings more than 30 years of experience in the public and private sectors to the role.

About the position

Reporting to the president, the chief of staff is a member of the president’s leadership team, and coordinates presidential activities in support of institutional priorities. This position serves as a key liaison to stakeholders and constituencies across the institution and represents the president in a variety of formal and informal settings. The chief of staff also manages and coordinates the administrative functions of the Office of the President and oversees special projects. 

The chief of staff is charged with maximizing the effectiveness of the Office of the President with respect to workflow, scheduling, staffing, budget, communications, events and interactions with key internal and external constituencies.
