Cancer in Young Adults: Progress At Last!?
The plight of cancer in older adolescents and young adults (AYAs) was largely ignored during the last half century. As a result, the AYA age group has had the least progress in survival, both quantitatively and qualitatively, and in translational research and clinical trials. Since 2000, this deficit has been significantly reduced in the United States by organizations and programs at the national and community level, including Rochester. The gap has been closed in some cancers, but in most others the emperor of all maladies remains triumphant.
