Who, when and where?

Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is this year's keynote speaker. He will speak on Saturday, October 12 in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre in downtown Rochester.

Why do you need a lottery?

Meliora Weekend has grown in popularity in recent years. Kodak Hall has a maximum capacity of 2300 seats and is our largest on campus venue for these events. The lottery will more fairly provide access to the live keynote address.

How can I get a ticket?

Access to tickets will be distributed via an online lottery in mid-July.

The lottery will be managed via this website.

Who is eligible for the lottery?

All alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and members of the George Eastman Circle (GEC) at the Associate and Member levels are eligible for the general lottery. It is not open to the general public.

How does the lottery work?

The lottey will open for entry in mid-July and close on July 31 at Noon EDT. Interested guests must first create an account using this website. Guests will then be asked if they want to enter the lottery and for how many tickets (up to a maximum of 4 per household). The lottery will be open for multiple days to ensure that guests with different schedules have equal access. Guests may enter the lottery only once per household. A software program will randomly and anonymously generate winners, who will be notified by email on August 7.

What about members of the GEC and reunion alumni?

Members of the GEC at the Associate and Member levels will be sent a special code giving them access to a separate reserved set of tickets in the lottery. Members at the Fellow, Benefactor, Patron, and Founder levels register for keynote tickets through a separate process. Alumni celebrating their 50th or 25th reunions from Arts, Sciences and Engineering, the Eastman School of Music, the School of Medicine and Dentistry, the School of Nursing, or Simon Graduate School of Business also will receive a special code for access to another separate reserved set of tickets in the lottery.

What are my chances in the lottery?

The chances of winning depend on how many users enter the lottery. It does not matter at what time of day or which day you enter during the time the lottery is open.

How much are tickets? Do I get to pick a seat?

Tickets to the live keynote address are $15 per person. Seats will be assigned at a later date. Tickets to the keynote have gone fast in recent years.

Do I need to enter the lottery the first day?

We understand that demand for tickets has been high in past years, which is why we are moving to the lottery system. You do not need to sign up for the lottery on the first day. The lottery will be open for multiple days to allow equal access.

How will I know the results? How do I pay for my tickets?

Guests will be notified via email on Wednesday, August 7. if they have secured tickets. When registration opens in late August, guests will see the tickets added to their account. Guests should complete their registration for all Meliora Weekend events and pay for their tickets at that time. Guests must pay for their tickets within a designated period of time.

What happens if I miss out on the lottery?

A free telecast of the keynote address will take place on the River Campus.

Where do I pick up my tickets?

Tickets must be picked up at one of several campus onsite registration areas during Meliora Weekend.

How do I purchase tickets for the Demetri Martin show?

Demetri Martin will perform on Friday, October 11. Tickets for his shows will go on sale on a first come, first served basis in late August when registration opens.
