Local artist Barbara Fox will exhibit her latest paintings about her mother and the challenges of growing old starting Nov. 4 in the Gallery at the Art and Music Library on the University of Rochester's River Campus.
Titled "Considerations: My Painting and My Mother," the exhibit aims to merge two important components of Fox's life: her passion for painting on canvas and her love for her aging mother. Her work presents images of her mother as "a celebration of her and an examination of her life in the last 10 years," said Fox. Within the last decade, the debilitating health of Fox's mother has yielded images captured in these paintings. Her art seeks to present viewers with "good paintings and good stories."
Fox received bachelor's and master's degrees in sociology from the University of Rochester. She also holds a master of fine arts degree from Rochester Institute of Technology, where she served on the faculty of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf from 1986 to June 2002. Fox's work has been displayed in solo and group exhibitions in many local galleries, on the campuses of colleges, and in venues around the country.
The Art and Music Library, located in room G-134 on the ground floor of Rush Rhees Library, is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.
