Stanley Engerman, the John H. Munro Professor of Economics and Professor of History the University of Rochester, will receive the UCLA Medal on June 18, 1995 at the California institution's commencement. Engerman is a world renowned scholar in the field of economic history. His long career also includes years of professional service on dozens of editorial and association boards.
Since 1979, the UCLA Medal has been presented each year at commencement to people who have made extraordinary contributions to the betterment of the university, or to those whose cultural, political, or humanitarian achievements are so important as to merit the university's highest recognition.
Previous recipients of the UCLA Medal include Warren Christopher (1981), Laurence Olivier (1983), Isaac Bashevis Singer (1984), Carol Burnett (1985), Ella Fitzgerald (1987), I.M. Pei (1990), Carl Sagan (1991), Vaclav Havel (1991), President Bill Clinton (1994), Shimon Peres (1994), and Benazir Bhutto (1995).
