The University of Rochester's English department will be hosting a lecture by Eduardo Cadava called "Mourning America: Emerson and the Guano of History," at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, in the Welles-Brown Room in Rush Rhees Library on the University of Rochester River Campus.
Cadava, an English professor at Princeton University, is the author of Words of Light: Theses on the Photography of History, and co-editor of the book Who Comes After the Subject? He is currently involved in a project relating mourning with nationalism, and writing a book, Music on Bones, that discusses the relation between music and techniques of reproduction, memorization, and writing. Cadava is also writing a series of essays dealing with the concept of democracy.
This lecture is free and open to all.
