Andrew Delbanco, renowned author of American culture studies, will pose the question "Do Americans Still Have a Dream?" in a talk to be given at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29, in the Gowen Room of Wilson Commons on the University of Rochester's River Campus.
Delbanco is Julian Clarence Levi Professor in the Humanities at Columbia University, and the author most recently of Required Reading: Why Our American Classics Matter Now. He writes about American culture for a variety of national publications, and his previous books include The Death of Satan: How Americans Have Lost the Sense of Evil and The Puritan Ordeal, which won the 1990 Lionel Trilling Award. This month, Delbanco will publish The Real American Dream, a book based on his William E. Massey Sr. Lectures in the History of American Civilization, delivered at Harvard University.
This event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the English Department's Colloquium Series.
