The University of Rochester's student newspaper, the Campus Times, recently received a first-place award for best design in weekly college newspapers from the New York Press Association in the statewide 2002 Better Newspaper Contest.
Serving the University community since 1873, the Campus Times is a student-run weekly newspaper with a current circulation of approximately 6,000. It focuses on reporting events on the River Campus and at the Eastman School of Music.
The New York Press Association annually awards professional, college, and high school newspapers awards in 62 categories as part of its mission to promote journalism and the development of talent in the industry. More than 3,600 entries from 183 newspapers competed in this year's contest. Entries were divided into different divisions and judged.
