Now in its 10th year, the annual Institute on Catholic Education will present two days of programs designed for teachers, administrators, clergy, and others who are committed to the future of Catholic education. Sessions will be held Thursday, July 8, and Friday, July 9, on the University of Rochester's River Campus.
The institute, which is sponsored by the University's Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development, will use interactive lectures, activities, discussions, and social conversation to explore issues that are central to the continued growth of Catholic education.
Thursday's schedule features talks by Margaret Guider, OSF, associate professor of religion and society and a faculty director of ministerial studies at Weston Jesuit School of Theology, on the importance of helping students deal with conflicts in society, and on the cultural challenges facing Catholic educators. On Friday, two lectures by Mary Angela Shaughnessy, SCN, professor of education and legal counsel at Spalding University, will focus on the legal implications of social change and cultural diversity, as well as the ethical implications of technology.
Small group sessions throughout the institute will address such topics as serving children of other faiths who attend Catholic schools; assessing the learning styles of students; and reversing the cycle of conflict in school environments.
A registration fee of $169 ($185 after June 19) is required, and does not include accommodations. Group rates are available. To register or for information, contact the Warner School at (585) 275-7833 or (585) 275-8270.
