University of Rochester students and the general public will have a chance to see some of the new talent in Hollywood in a preview of the new film Boiler Room. The movie stars Giovanni Ribisi (Saving Private Ryan, The Mod Squad), Tom Everett Scott (One True Thing), Scott Caan (Varsity Blues), Nia Long (Boyz in the Hood), Vin Diesel (Saving Private Ryan), and Ben Affleck in a cameo appearance. Boiler Room is being shown at 9 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Hubbell Auditorium in Hutchison Hall on the River Campus.
Boiler Room depicts the life of Seth Davis (Ribisi), a college dropout who wants to prove his worth to his overbearing father (Ron Rifkin). He takes a job at a small brokerage firm where he hopes to please his father by becoming successful. At the start, the firm looks like the perfect environment to make money, but as Seth gets richer his curiosity about how the system works ultimately jeopardizes all that he has gained. Seth has joined the inner circle of the boiler room boys, a group of young men who enjoy finagling unsuspecting clients to invest in stocks in bogus companies so they may make their millions.
The preview, which will be held in Hubbell Auditorium in Hutchison Hall on the River Campus, is free and open to the public. Door passes are required and can be obtained at the Wilson Commons Information Desk. Seating is first-come, first-serve, as seating is limited. For more information contact (716) 275-5911.
