WRUR-FM, the student-run radio station at the University of Rochester, has boosted its power from 50 to 3,000 watts.
WRUR began transmitting at full power Tuesday, Sept. 5 from atop the Hyatt Regency Rochester hotel downtown. The station's new broadcasting radius is approximately 40 miles, establishing WRUR as one of the most powerful college radio stations in the state.
The new signal corrects old technical problems involving interference with 911 emergency call boxes in Rochester.
WRUR, at 88.5 on the FM dial, is a non-profit radio station staffed by community and University volunteers. It airs jazz, blues, classical, alternative, and urban music programming.
