Kathrine Schultz, a senior optics major and German minor at the University of Rochester, is the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship. Named for its sponsor, the late U.S. Sen. J. William Fulbright, the Fulbright program was established by Congress 50 years ago to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
A graduate of Webster High School in Webster, NY, Schultz is the daughter of Brian and Joan Schultz. She is a member of the Optical Society of America and Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society at the University of Rochester.
As a Fulbright Scholar, Schultz will travel to Friedrich-Schiller-Universitaet in Jena, Germany, in late summer where she will study optical metrology. Her research will involve the measurement of various parameters of optical systems such as efficiency. Schultz will participate in orientation and a month-long language program before beginning her research in September. She will also receive a stipend to cover living expenses.
Following her studies in Germany, Schultz plans to continue working in applied optics in industry.
