G. Love and Special Sauce is inspired by a variety of music such as jazz, hip hop, and classic rhythm and blues. They became a college favorite after the release of their self-titled debut album in 1994, which sold more then 250,000 copies without significant radio play.
Frontman G. Love, born Garrett Dutton, grew up in Philadelphia, singing on his hometown streets. He moved to Boston in 1992 where he met up with drummer Jeffrey "Thunderhouse" Clemens and bassist Jimmy Prescott, who was later replaced in 1996 by King Kane. Following their debut album, the band released Coast to Coast Motel, followed by Yeah, It's That Easy in the fall of 1997 and their latest album, Philadelphonic, released in the summer of 1999. In addition, the band has recently put out a greatest hits album, The Best of G. Love and Special Sauce, released in March 2002.
Opening for G. Love and Special Sauce will be the band Standing Wave.
