Author and poet Geoffrey Hill will give a reading at the University of Rochester at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, in the Interfaith Chapel on the River Campus. This event is part of the 39th season of the Hyam Plutzik Memorial Poetry Series in conjunction with The Donald R. Clark Enrichment Program in the Humanities.
Hill has written several collections of poetry including Somewhere Is Such a Kingdom, Tenebrae, New and Collected Poems 1952-1992, Canaan, and The Triumph of Love. Hill's most recent work, a book-length poem titled Speech! Speech!, will be published later this year.
Hill is a graduate of Keble College in Oxford and is now an Honorary Fellow. He has taught at the University of Leeds and the University of Cambridge, and is currently a professor of literature and religion at Boston University.
Hill's honors include a Heinemann Book Award from England's Royal Society of Literature for The Triumph of Love. In 1996, Hill was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and was the 1998 recipient of the Kahn Award for his collection of poems, Canaan.
