"The Heart of the Matter," the annual summer institute on Catholic education at the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development, will be held on Thursday, July 10, and Friday, July 11.
The institute, to be held on the University of Rochester River Campus, brings together Catholic educators, clergy, parents and others from a wide geographic area to reflect on the emerging direction of Catholic education. Participants will explore the role of technology in education, the role of leadership, and the spiritual dimension of their involvement in Catholic education, and they'll discuss the role of Catholic schools in society.
Selected topics of discussion include "New Directions, New Hopes for the Catholic School Ministry," "Technology, Morality and the Future," and "Catholic Schools: Implications for Society." Slated to speak are Maria Ciriello, O.P., dean of the School of Education at the University of Portland, and Peter Pontolillo, S.M., educational leader and political activist on behalf of Catholic schoolchildren.
The institute will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 10 and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on July 11. The $159 registration fee covers all materials, refreshments, luncheons, and parking for the institute. Housing is available for an additional fee. The deadline to register is June 16. Group rates also are available. For more information, call (585) 275-7833.
