A cooperative effort between Wilson Commons Student Activities on the River Campus and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will encourage students to enjoy one of Rochester’s cultural treasures.
Students will be able to purchase tickets for $5 or take advantage of discounts on higher-priced tickets to certain orchestra performances.
The program, titled “Symphonic Saturdays,” kicks off with the RPO’s “American Impressions” concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in the Eastman Theatre. Tickets can be purchased at the Common Market in Wilson Commons. Transportation will be provided; a bus will leave from Information Technology Services in the back of Rush Rhees Library for the Eastman at 7 p.m. on the day of the performance, and will bring students back after the concert. Students can use their ticket stubs to get a free beverage at the Common Ground Café after the performance.
The RPO program on Nov. 15 will feature pianist Terrence Wilson, who has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, and the Cincinnati Symphony. Guest conductor is Daniel Hege. The program will feature Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide,” John Corigliano’s “Piano Concerto,” and Dvorak’s “Symphony No. 8.”
To raise awareness and promote RPO’s commitment to education with “Symphonic Saturdays,” the RPO Woodwind Quintet will perform at noon on Monday, Nov. 10, in Hirst Lounge in Wilson Commons.
“Symphonic Saturdays” is sponsored by Wilson Commons Student Activities, UR Concerts, University of Rochester Dining Services, the RPO, and Fashionably Late, a program spotlighting entertainment options for students. For more information, call x5-7316 or the box office, (585) 454-2100.
