The University of Rochester chapter of Delta Gamma sorority will hold its annual philanthropy event, Anchor Splash, at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, in the Speegle-Wilbraham Aquatic Complex of the Robert B. Goergen Athletic Center on the University's River Campus. Anchor Splash involves a week of national fund-raising projects that culminate in competitive relay races and synchronized swimming. The funds raised help people who are visually impaired.
Tickets are $2 or a pair of donated prescription eyeglasses. Half of all proceeds go to Delta Gamma's foundation, Aid to the Blind and Sight Conservation. The foundation provides computers, Braille books, and scholarships for children and adults. This year, much of the money raised will go to the Katie Bug Fund to help a nine-year-old girl with multiple heath problems. Last year, Anchor Splash raised more than $2,000 locally.
Teams of eight to 10 people can sign up for the event through Friday, Nov. 14. A $30 registration fee per team can be paid from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Wilson Commons. T-shirts and raffle tickets also will be sold. Anchor Splash is part of Greek Week, a series of special programs and events presented by sororities and fraternities on campus.
