TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: Saturday, Jan. 31, on the University of Rochester's River Campus. Dinner: 6 p.m. in Douglass Dining Hall; concert performance, 8:30 p.m. in Strong Auditorium. Other events planned during "Awareness Week."
ADMISSION: $8 for the dinner; $6 for the general public and $5 for University of Rochester students for the performance. Advance tickets available at the Common Market in Wilson Commons on the River Campus.
Note: Parking is available on University lots after 7 p.m. weeknights and all weekend.
The Chinese Students Association at the University of Rochester has scheduled a dinner, cultural performance, and other events to mark the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Monkey.
The celebration culminates in the annual "China Nite" on Saturday, Jan. 31, with a dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. in Douglass Dining Hall and a concert at 8:30 p.m. in Strong Auditorium. All events are on the River Campus and are open to the public.
The dinner offers authentic Chinese fare, catered by Golden Dynasty Restaurant. Admission to the dinner is $8 and tickets are available in advance at the Common Market in Wilson Commons on the River Campus.
The concert includes students performing traditional dances such as the Lion Dance, the Cups, Plates, and Chopstick Dance, the Farmer's Dance, and the Fan Dance, as well as vocal and instrumental numbers and a fashion show. Tickets to the concert are $6 for the general public and $5 for University of Rochester students and are available at the Common Market in Wilson Commons and at the door.
Leading up to those events is "Awareness Week," which starts with the screening of the Chinese movies Infernal Affairs and My Left Eye Sees Ghosts from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Hoyt Auditorium. Other events include an Arts and Literature Fair from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, in Hirst Lounge in Wilson Commons, and "Casino Nite" from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, in the Hirst Lounge. "Awareness Week" events are free.
