A workshop focused on the methods used to teach reading strategies will be offered by the Warner Center for Professional Development and Education Reform of the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development. The workshop, designed for teachers in grades 1 to 5, will be held Thursdays, March 4, 11, and 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Twelve Corners Middle School in Brighton.
Joy Moss, literature specialist at the Harley Lower School and adjunct associate professor at the Warner School, will lead the sessions. Participants will be invited to explore ways to teach the reading-thinking strategies used by all skilled readers to generate meaning and to interpret increasingly complex and challenging texts.
Throughout the workshop, special emphasis will be placed on the selection of literature that invites reader engagement and fosters lively discussion. Examples of literary experiences will be used to promote reading and expand personal reading interests.
The fee for the workshop is $60, and continuing education credits (CEUs) are available to participants. The registration deadline is Feb. 27. For more information, contact (585) 275-8270 or visit the Warner Center on the Web at www.rochester.edu/Warner/warnercenter.
