A University of Rochester faculty and staff blood drive for the American Red Cross will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15, in the May Room of Wilson Commons on the University of Rochester’s River Campus.
Each semester, two blood drives are organized by the Office of the College Dean of Students to seek donations from students as well as faculty and staff. Collecting units of blood is a critical need with most donations used for surgery patients.
Appointments are preferred and can by made by contacting Jason Smith in the Dean of Students’ office at x5-4085. People are eligible if they have not donated blood since Feb. 19. Students also are welcome to donate blood at this drive.
The goal for the drive is 30 units of blood. Since the start of this academic year, students, faculty, and staff have supplied 412 units, compared to 395 units last year. Donations are in constant need since red blood cells have a limited shelf life of 42 days.
The American Red Cross New York-Penn Region serves 64 counties in New York State and Pennsylvania with a population of more than 8 million people. For more information, contact x5-4085.
