The University of Rochester’s student newspaper, the Campus Times, earned three awards in the latest judging of weekly college newspapers statewide by the New York Press Association.
In the 2003 Better Newspaper Contest, the newspaper received third-place awards for general excellence and for design. Another third-place award was shared by senior Karen E. Taylor of Kaysville, Utah, and junior Chadwick Schnee of Lancaster, Pa., for news coverage. Taylor was a staff writer and Schnee was editor-in-chief during 2003.
Serving the University community since 1873, the Campus Times is a student-run newspaper with a circulation of approximately 5,000. The reporters and editors focus on news, sports, and opinion about the River Campus and the Eastman School of Music.
The New York Press Association annually awards professional, college, and high school newspapers recognition as part of its mission to promote journalism and the development of talent in the industry. Entries are divided by category and judged. The awards were presented at the New York Press Association’s spring conference in April.
