Thomas S. Richards has been elected to the University of Rochester Board of Trustees.
Richards was voluntary chairman until recently of the Greater Rochester Enterprise, the public-private partnership formed to improve the Rochester area economy. Until June 2002, he was chairman, president, and CEO of RGS Energy Group, the parent company of Rochester Gas & Electric.
A partner at Nixon, Hargrave, Devans & Doyle (now Nixon Peabody), he first joined RG&E in 1991 as general counsel. He later served as president and chief operating officer, senior vice president for finance, and senior vice president for corporate services. He assumed his positions with RGS Energy Group in January 1998.
Richards is a graduate of Bucknell University and Cornell University Law School, and served in the U.S. Navy.
