The University of Rochester Chamber Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, in lower Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester’s River Campus.
The concert program includes works by Mendelssohn and Beethoven performed by string quartets, a piano trio, and a group of madrigal singers.
David Harman, professor of music and director of orchestral activities, is conductor and music director of the University of Rochester Chamber Orchestra. His recent professional appearances include return engagements with the Louisville Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony, the Tucson Symphony, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lake Placid Sinfonietta, and Opera Theater of Rochester. He has also made a special appearance with the Orchestra of the Spring Festival of Contemporary Music in Ljubljana, Slovenia, under the sponsorship of Arts America.
The University of Rochester Chamber Orchestra comprises undergraduate students as well as graduate students and community members. The group performs music from Baroque to contemporary, showcasing the versatility of its members. In addition to four free concerts in Strong Auditorium each year, the orchestra also gives numerous community concerts and tours. Past tours and performance locations include Montreal, Italy, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands.
This season the chamber orchestra will present major works by Rossini, Franck, Mozart, and Haydn, as well as new contemporary pieces. The orchestra also performs at the annual Viennese Ball on campus.
