Stanley Byrd, an organizational development specialist, has been named manager of human resource organizational development at the University of Rochester with a special emphasis on diversity issues.
“Stanley Byrd joins the University to support our objective to become an increasingly inclusive community,” said Charles J. Murphy, associate vice president for human resources. “His efforts at the University will be devoted to the creation and enhancement of programs that encourage diversity in hiring, as well as a broad understanding of diversity issues among our workforce, throughout the divisions.”
Murphy said that in his first few months Byrd will be “mapping out strategy and tactics for the campuses, including the Medical Center.”
Byrd has been a trainer, facilitator, and consultant affiliated with the National Coalition Building Institute, and has offered consulting services to more than 25 local agencies on issues of diversity and prejudice reduction. His prior positions include those as director of diversity and training for the Catholic Family Center, services coordinator and then interim program director of Men of Color Health Awareness Project, Inc., clinical services coordinator for Action for a Better Community, director of organizational development at St. Mary’s Hospital, and director of residential services for the United Cerebral Palsy Association’s Rochester office. Byrd was recently appointed to the board of the AIDS Community Health Center.
He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the State University College at Brockport.
