A dance that not only displays passion but also becomes a passion for its dancers, the Argentine Tango is challenging, exciting, and mostly improvised.
Dancer, choreographer, and teacher Emmanuelle Loustaunou will discuss the history and culture of the dance and its world-wide revival over the last 15 years in "An Introduction to Argentine Tango," a lecture/demonstration at 7 p.m. Friday, April 1 in Spurrier Dance Studio on the University of Rochester's River Campus.
Accompanied by her husband, Len, Loustaunou will describe the elements that underlie the tango and invite audience members to try out steps.
Loustaunou has studied ballet, jazz, tap, modern dance and improvisation, body awareness practices, and experiential anatomy. Incorporating her interests of movement study and bodywork, she teaches dance, Pilates, and yoga. Loustaunou earned her bachelor's degree and her master of fine arts degree from Bennington College in Vermont.
Tickets to "An Introduction to Argentine Tango" are $5 for the general public and for University of Rochester faculty and staff and will be on sale at the door.
