Timothy Smith, senior director of socially responsive investing at Walden Asset Management, will discuss “Making a Difference in Corporate Decisions: Investing for Social and Environmental Accountability” at 5 p.m. Monday, March 28, in the Welles-Brown Room of Rush Rhees Library on the University of Rochester’s River Campus. The talk is free and open to the public.
Smith joined Walden, a division of Boston Trust and Investment Management Company, in 2000 as senior vice president and director of socially responsive investing. He plays a leadership role in Walden’s shareholder advocacy and client service initiatives. Walden Asset Management works with clients to address their particular social concerns through portfolio management and investment.
Previously, Smith served as executive director of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, which coordinates action for some 275 religious institution investors, for 24 years. He serves on the boards of the Social Investment Forum and of Shared Interest, a South Africa development fund. Smith has a master’s degree in divinity from Union Theological Seminary and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto.
Smith’s talk, which will focus on socially responsive investing and how it can encourage corporations to be more socially and environmentally responsible, will be followed by a question-and answer period. Refreshments will be served.
