The Program of Movement and Dance at the University of Rochester will present dancer/choreographer Wallie Wolfgruber in an evening of unique, exceptional, and thought-provoking solo and duets at 7:30 pm. Friday, Oct. 29, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, in Spurrier Dance Studio on the University of Rochester's River Campus.
The evening includes Wolfgruber's signature solo "Hatch" and the 2004 duet "American Blessings," in which graceful dance sequences are juxtaposed by harsh images of last year's Abu Ghraib prison scandal. Wolfgruber will be joined by David Grenke, artistic director of Thingsexlsee'm Dance/Theater Company and a former member of the Paul Taylor Dance Company, and a newcomer to the New York City dance world, Rochester native Janet Forward. The performance includes video projection of a dance-on-camera work and music ranging from Bach's "Goldberg Variations" to an original score by Michael Wall.
Wolfgruber was a principal member of the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company and has performed in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. Her credits also include the Rod Rogers Dance Company, Donald/Byrd/The Group, and the Ohad Naharin Dance Company, among others. Her work has been presented in New York City, Canada, France, and Germany and most recently, one of her works was screened at the Dance on Camera West International Film Festival in Los Angeles. She holds a master of fine arts degree in dance from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and is an associate professor at SUNY Brockport.
Admission to the event is $6 for students and $7 for the general public. Tickets are on sale in the Common Market in Wilson Commons on the River Campus. For more information, contact (585) 273-5150.
