TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, in Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester's River Campus
ADMISSION: Free and open to the public, but donations accepted to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina
The University of Rochester Jazz Ensemble will present a concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, in Strong Auditorium on the River Campus. The event is free, but donations will be accepted to help New Orleans jazz musicians displaced or personally affected by Hurricane Katrina.
The program will consist of several small-group pieces in addition to nine works for the large ensemble. The selections range from swing classics to modern and will feature the works of Sammy Nestico, John LaBarbera, Frank Mantooth, Benny Goodman, and Charles Mingus. The ensemble is directed by Eric Schmitz, a doctoral student at the University's Eastman School of Music.
