Cellist Mikolaj Palosz will perform at a recital at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, in the Sanctuary of the Interfaith Chapel on the University of Rochester's River Campus. The concert of Polish romantic and contemporary music is free and open to the public.
A graduate of the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Palosz had won many awards, including second prize and Special Prize at the fifth Penderecki International Contemporary Chamber Music Competition in Krakow, Poland, and recognition at the first International Lutoslawski Cello Competition in Warsaw.
He also has performed at the annual Warsaw Autumn Contemporary Music Festival, is a member of Cello Octet Conjunto Ibérico, and has played in the Plain Music concert series in Warsaw.
Oleksandra Yurchenko, a pianist who will accompany Palosz, performs at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance and is a pianist and organist at a Rochester Ukrainian Church. A graduate of the Academy of Music in Lwow, Ukraine, Yurchenko has played in many concerts and competitions. She has won numerous awards for best accompanist in several European competitions, in such cities as Dresden and Yalta.
