Born in Lima, Alegria is one of Peru's most influential figures in jazz, fusing the powerful rhythmic sounds of the black music of the coastal regions with his own personal approach to the trumpet. His six-piece ensemble includes trumpet, saxophone, guitar, bass, percussion, and drums and is appearing in Rochester as part of the group's "4Future Music Tour." The event is cosponsored by the Department of Music in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering and by the Department of Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media in the Eastman School of Music.
