The Midnight Ramblers, an all-male a cappella group at the University of Rochester, will host the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) quarterfinal competition for the Mid-Atlantic region at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, in Strong Auditorium on the University's River Campus.
The ICCAs are sponsored by Varsity Vocals, an international organization dedicated to professional a cappella. The Ramblers, who placed third in the finals of the competition last year, are not competing this year but will perform during the evening.
The quarterfinals will feature six a cappella groups from the Mid-Atlantic region. The Brick City Singers from Rochester Institute of Technology; Cadence from LaFayette College in Easton, Penn.; High Street A Cappella from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio; Orange Appeal from Syracuse University in Syracuse; Time Check from Marist College in Poughkeepsie; and the University of Rochester's all-female a cappella group Vocal Point will compete to advance to the semifinal competition.
Groups will be judged on vocal performance, visual performance, and subjective rank. The two highest scoring groups will be named quarterfinal champion and quarterfinal runner-up and will advance to the semifinals which will be held on March 4 at Rutgers University in Newark, N.J. From there, the highest scoring group will advance to the finals in New York City's Lincoln Center on April 29.
Tickets for the quarterfinal competition are $7 for students and $10 for the general public. They can be purchased at the Common Market in Wilson Commons on the River Campus or at the door. For more information, visit www.midnightramblers.org.
