Michal Pawel Markowski, professor and chair of the Department of International Polish Studies at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, will speak on "Gombrowicz: Literature and the World." The first guest for this semester's Skalny Lecture and Artist Series, Markowski earned his master's and doctoral degrees at Jagiellonian. Recently, he was visiting professor of Slavic languages and literatures at Harvard University.
Markowski has authored a book on Gombrowicz, who died in 1969 and whose novels and plays have been translated widely. The Skalny Lecture and Artist Series offers lectures, films, musical performances, and other presentations on Poland and Central Europe throughout the year.
