Three University of Rochester undergraduates received the Susan B. Anthony Institute Jurors' Choice Prize from the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender and Women's Studies for their works currently on display in the Art & Music Library located on the ground floor of Rush Rhees Library on the River Campus. The exhibit, titled "(en)GENDERED: identity, gender & art," features works by undergraduates that explore the intersection of gender, identity, and the visual arts.
The Jurors' Choice Prizes carry an award of $150 each. Senior Keith MacLean won a prize for his three-minute film titled "Mom's Big Job." Senior Rosalie Adams received the award for her painting "When Fathers Misbehave," and sophomore Becky Cheung won for her photogram "What About the Other Girls in the Gap?"
The pieces were judged by a panel composed of Susan Gustafson, director of the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender and Women's Studies; Joan Saab, associate professor of art history/visual and cultural studies; and Marjorie Searl, chief curator of the Memorial Art Gallery.
The 11 works in the exhibit, chosen from a total of 33 student entries, can be seen through Thursday, March 18. Hours of the Art & Music Library are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 10 p.m., Sunday.
