The Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Rochester will present its 13th annual Interdisciplinary Graduate Conference on Friday, March 24, in the Hawkins-Carlson Room of Rush Rhees Library on the University's River Campus. The event will begin with a breakfast at 9 a.m. and culminate with a closing reception at 4:15 p.m. The conference is free and open to the public.
The keynote address will be delivered by Pamela Barnett, associate director of the McGraw Center for teaching and learning at Princeton University. Barnett was associate professor of English and African American Studies at the University of South Carolina before joining the Princeton faculty. The author of a book on the depiction of rape in American literature of and about the 1960s, Barnett will speak on "Literature of Sexual Freedom and Sexual Violence Since the Sixties."
Morning and afternoon conference sessions will feature panels of University graduate students discussing topics of Orientalism, gender roles and norms, and bodies and sexuality.
