Jim Conway, associate vice president of alumni relations and development at Northwestern University, has been named associate vice president for advancement services at the University of Rochester.
"We have recruited a true national leader in advancement," said Jim Thompson, senior vice president and chief advancement officer. "He's not only results-oriented, he also places a strong emphasis on building and supporting a first-rate team of advancement staff to work for and with him."
At Northwestern, Conway has been responsible for the financial, operational, and administrative management of the Office of Alumni Relations and Development and supervises a staff of 55. He has helped to transform Northwestern's Advancement IT systems; in addition, he has introduced important new financial, budget, and management practices.
Previously, he had been assistant vice president for development at the University of Chicago, where he oversaw strategic development, alignment, and management of technical systems and administrative process for the development division. Among other projects, he oversaw construction of new office space for new staff from five locations, and proposed the selection and installation of a new university-wide development system.
Earlier, he served at his alma mater, Harvard University, as director of alumni and development information services, as well as managing director of operations and then director of alumni and development information services for the Harvard Alumni Association.
Prior to joining Harvard, he was European management information system manager for DuPont's Biomedical Division in Germany; and international management information system manager at Nashua Corporation, with responsibility for 15 IT departments worldwide.
