Robert F. Kennedy Jr., one of the country's top environmental lawyers and advocates, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, in Strong Auditorium on the University of Rochester's River Campus.
Kennedy is president of Waterkeeper Alliance, an international advocacy group to protect the world's watersheds, and the chief prosecuting attorney for Riverkeeper, an organization to restore and prevent pollution of the Hudson River. He also serves as senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, a national nonprofit organization of scientists, lawyers, and environmental specialists.
Admission to Kennedy's talk is $10 for the general public; $7 for University of Rochester faculty, staff, and graduate students; and $3 for University of Rochester undergraduate students. Tickets will be available in advance at the Common Market in Wilson Commons on the University's River Campus starting Sept. 8, and, if still available, at the door.
A graduate of Harvard University, Kennedy received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School. He earned a master's degree in environmental law from Pace University School of Law, where he is a clinical professor and supervising attorney at the Environmental Litigation Clinic.
Kennedy has worked on several political campaigns, including the presidential campaigns of Edward M. Kennedy in 1980, Al Gore in 2000, and John Kerry in 2004. He is the author of several published books, including Crimes Again Nature and The Riverkeepers. His articles have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, the Village Voice, and other publications.
