Formed by a group of friends in the basement of a barbershop in 1996 in Boston, Mass., the band's goal was to create a novel genre of music. The result was a chaotic mix of sounds that won over audiences worldwide. The group's original songs combine the musical influences of punk rock, rock, Irish folk, and hardcore.
The group has released more than 10 singles and four full-length albums. In addition, Dropkick Murphys has toured in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, Ireland, Scandinavia, and Australia.
The band is notorious for encouraging audiences to participate and sing along during concerts. The members tell fans that they "view the band and the audience as one in the same; in other words our stage and our microphone are yours." Dropkick Murphys' appearance is sponsored by UR Concerts.
