University of Rochester President Joel Seligman has named Lamar Murphy, who has held senior staff positions at major U.S. universities, as his deputy to coordinate presidential activities in support of institutional priorities.
Murphy, who earned her doctoral degree in American history at the University of Chicago, will oversee a variety of key duties in the president's office and will be a member of the President's Cabinet and the Senior Leadership Group.
Lynne Davidson will continue her role as deputy to the president, serving as the liaison between the office of the president and the academic functions of the University. She also will assume the position of Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity effective Jan. 1.
Murphy's academic positions have included senior assistant dean at the Graduate School of The Ohio State University and associate dean at the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Murphy also has been a management consultant, and her most recent assignment was this fall for the president's office at the University of Rochester. Murphy's husband, Bill, is vice president for communications.
