ADMISSION: Free and open to the public
John F. Harris, noted Washington political writer and editor, will discuss his new book about presidential politics, The Way to Win: Taking the White House in 2008 (Random House, 2006). He's the new editor-in-chief of Politico.com, a Web site devoted to coverage of politics.
The Rochester native spent 21 years at The Washington Post, most recently as the national politics editor, and will share his thesis relating to two people whom he believes have the greatest understanding of how to win modern presidential campaigns: Karl Rove and Bill Clinton. Rove, the chief strategist for President George Bush, and the former president have radically different ideas but similar approaches to winning, says Harris.
Harris also is the author of the New York Times best-seller and notable book of the year The Survivor: Bill Clinton in the White House (Random House, 2005), about the history of the Clinton presidency. He co-authored his most recent book with Mark Halperin of ABC News.
This talk is part of the continuing Neilly Series supported by the Andrew H. and Janet Dayton Neilly Endowment and the River Campus Libraries. Free parking will be available in the Library Lot at the rear of the Rush Rhees Library.
