Attention freshmen, sophomores, and juniors: starting fall 2007, the popular semester-long program in Arezzo, Italy will now be a fall program. It will no longer be offered in the spring.
Arezzo, a uniquely unspoiled Tuscan town, is a small city with artistic treasures of the ancient, medieval, and Renaissance periods.
Jacqueline Levine, assistant dean and director for study abroad, said studying in Arezzo provides students with the unique opportunity to study Italian language and culture, be integrated into the daily life of the community and to learn and share local lifestyles and values.
"The change to a fall program will allow students to take advantage of a variety of educational and cultural opportunities, such as attending the traditional medieval joust that takes place in early September in the historic town center," Levine said.
Donna Logan, the on-site director, added that fall is the ideal time for students to gain an in-depth understanding of the traditional Tuscan harvest season, still an important aspect of the local economy. Course-related field trips include museums, cultural centers and churches as well as historic wineries and sites of olive oil production.
Completion of the program in Arezzo constitutes a humanities cluster, and the program fulfills most requirements for an Italian minor. No prior study of Italian is required, and intermediate and advanced students can be accommodated.
Applications are due March 1.
