David Cole, professor of law at Georgetown University and a commentator on National Public Radio's All Things Considered, discusses the deterioration of civil liberties and how safe Americans really are in his talk "Less Safe, Less Free: Why We are Losing the War on Terror."
Cole is also a volunteer staff attorney for the Center for Constitutional Rights and legal affairs correspondent for The Nation. He has published on a variety of topics, including criminal justice and constitutional law. Cole most recently wrote Enemy Aliens: Double Standards and Constitutional Freedoms in the War on Terrorism, which received the American Book Award and the Hefner First Amendment Prize in 2004.
His talk is part of the "Law and the War on Terror" series, one of 10 projects funded by the Humanities Project initiative at the University emphasizing the influence and contributions of the humanities to academic and civic life.
