Charles Duke, University of Rochester professor of physics, will host a three-lecture series named in honor of Elliott W. Montroll, a former University of Rochester statistical physicist who held the position of Albert Einstein Professor of Physics and director of the Institute for Fundamental Studies. The Montroll Lectures bring a distinguished scientist to campus once every two to three years for a week's series of seminars and colloquium.
Tuesday's lecture will talk about the new global economy and how it has changed the way that research and development is performed and the characteristics of technical careers outside academia. Wednesday's lecture focuses on the creation of economic value from research and development to the final product or service. The final lecture will discuss the future of industrial physics and physicists in the new global economy.
