Joshua Farrelman has been promoted to director of Government & Community Relations at the University of Rochester. Farrelman has served for the past year as associate director of Government Relations.
In his new role, Farrelman will continue to work to advance the University's interests, and when appropriate, advocate for policy development on a variety of topics including higher education, health care and research. In addition, he will continue to serve as a key liaison to elected and appointed officials at all levels of government, as well as represent the University on several important organizations and associations.
"Josh has used his experience, political sensitivity, and his knowledge of public policy to help the University build solid relationships with government officials," said Peter G. Robinson, University of Rochester executive director of Government Relations.
An honors graduate with a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at Cortland, Farrelman built a steady resume of legislative experiences before joining URMC in 2005. He most recently was assistant director for the American Library Association's Office of Government Relations, where he worked to represent the organization's legislative positions before the U.S. Congress. Prior to that, he served as senior legislative assistant to U.S. Representative Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT), and as staff assistant for U.S. Representative Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY) in her Washington office. He currently resides in Bloomfield, NY.
