TIME, DATE, AND PLACE: 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, in Meliora Hall 203 on the University of Rochester's River Campus. Refreshments served at 6:30 p.m.
ADMISSION: Free and open to the public.
The Milagro Beanfield War (1988), directed by Robert Redford and written by John Nichols and David Ward, tells the story of a man from a small town in New Mexico and his battle involving political corruption and a real estate developer's plans to displace local Hispanic farmers.
The film was recognized by the Political Film Society and won an Academy Award in 1989 for best music score. The evening begins with refreshments served at 6:30 p.m. The Milagro Beanfield War will be introduced by Claudia Schaefer, professor of Spanish and chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures.
This screening is part of the ongoing food and film series "Reimagining the Americas: Cultures, Identities, Formations and Transformations," and part of the Humanities Project, an initiative by the University of Rochester emphasizing the influence and contributions of the humanities to academic and civil life.
