This unique concert features performances by internationally-known musicians from the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music and the Bach Children's Chorus in residence at Nazareth College.
Musical selections with a theme of peace, harmony, and joy are at the heart of the program, which includes solo, trio, and quartet performances by celebrated cellist Steve Doane and pianist Barry Snyder, and three "peace pieces" by acclaimed jazz pianist Harold Danko.
Complementing the schedule are award-winning Eastman students, tenor Vernon DiCarlo and pianist Arunesh Nadgir, and performances of "Ode to Joy," "Simple Gifts," and "All Things Bright and Beautiful" by the 60-member Bach Children's Chorus.
Proceeds benefit the M. K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence at the University of Rochester. Founded in 1991 by Arun Gandhi, the grandson of Mohandas K. Gandhi, the institute is dedicated to promoting peace and nonviolence in the greater Rochester community and the world. It houses 100 volumes of the Indian humanitarian's writings and research, as well as photographs, videos, and audio recordings documenting his extraordinary life. The institute relocated to the University from Memphis, Tenn., over the summer.
