For the 2008-09 academic year, the University of Rochester Board of Trustees has approved a 5.9 percent increase in tuition from $34,380 to $36,410 for the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering. Costs for the most common room and board plans will grow 2 percent from $10,600 to $10,810. This smaller increase reflects some modifications to the meal plan program. The term bill for undergraduates in the College will total $47,220.
Tuition revenue helps support existing academic programs and helps provide for new ones, such as forthcoming programs in International Relations and Economics and Business Strategies as well as initiatives that connect the humanities to the sciences and engineering, said University President Joel Seligman.
The increase also will support classroom improvements, information technology, infrastructure, and transportation.
Tuition for incoming freshmen at the Eastman School of Music will reflect a 9.9 percent increase from $31,720 to $34,860. This is the result of a multi-year plan to make Eastman's tuition comparable to that of the College. Eastman sophomores, juniors, and seniors will see a 5.9 percent increase.
The rates for 2008-09 at the University's professional schools are: $38,700 for the School of Medicine and Dentistry, a 4 percent increase; $32,500 for the School of Nursing, a 4.2 percent increase; $39,030 for the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration, a 5.9 percent increase; and $32,930 for the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development, a 4 percent increase.
